What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

I came to KPU because I want to become a Registered Nurse (RN) and continue my nursing career in Canada as an internationally educated nurse. I chose this program to gain the knowledge and qualifications I need to practice nursing in Canada.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

I currently work as a registered nurse on a medical-surgical unit in hospital. My main responsibilities include providing direct patient care, administering medications, monitoring patients' conditions, coordinating with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and ensuring patients receive safe and compassionate care

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

The clinical courses have been the most valuable because they helped me transition into nursing practice in Canada. I learned Canadian nursing procedures and policies, which are different from those in my home country. I also gained a better understanding of Indigenous history and the ongoing challenges Indigenous communities face, which has helped me become a more culturally sensitive nurse.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

My advice is to ask lots of questions and learn from experienced professionals, instructors, and mentors. Don't be afraid to ask for help because every question is an opportunity to grow. Also, identify your strengths and continue building on them, while being honest about your weaknesses and working to improve them. Finally, never underestimate your own experiences. Your life experiences and skills are valuable, so use them with confidence and trust in what you have learned
