What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

I chose KPU because of its strong reputation for practical, career-focused education and the supportive learning environment it offers. As an international student with a passion for business and finance, I enrolled in the Accounting Diploma program to build a solid foundation in accounting, taxation, auditing, and financial reporting. KPU’s hands-on approach to learning, experienced instructors, and industry-relevant curriculum helped me develop both technical knowledge and professional skills that prepared me for the workplace.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

I currently work as an Administrative Assistant at a public accounting firm in Surrey, British Columbia. My day-to-day responsibilities include communicating with clients, scheduling appointments, maintaining client records, preparing and organizing documents, managing correspondence, and supporting accountants with various administrative and accounting-related tasks. This role allows me to apply the knowledge I gained at KPU while developing valuable professional skills in client service, organization, and business operations.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

The most valuable aspects of my KPU experience have been the practical accounting knowledge, critical thinking skills, and professional communication skills I developed throughout my studies. Courses in accounting, taxation, auditing, and business helped me understand real-world business practices and prepared me to contribute confidently in a professional environment. Group projects, presentations, and case studies also strengthened my teamwork, problem-solving, and time-management abilities, which I use every day in my career.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

My advice is to start gaining practical experience as early as possible and never be afraid to ask questions. Success comes from continuous learning, persistence, and maintaining a positive attitude. Take advantage of networking opportunities, build relationships with instructors and professionals, and apply what you learn in the classroom to real-world situations. Most importantly, don’t be discouraged by challenges. I learned many things through trial and error, and every experience helped me grow both personally and professionally. Stay consistent, keep learning, and trust the process.
