What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

I immigrated to Canada from Moldova after already completing a law degree, a master's degree in law, and doctoral studies. Although I had significant legal education and experience, I understood that building a professional career in Canada would require learning a new legal system, adapting to a new culture, and establishing local credentials.

I chose Kwantlen Polytechnic University because of its practical approach to education and its strong connection to the local community. KPU provided an accessible pathway to continue my education while balancing work, family responsibilities, and the challenges of starting over in a new country.

My studies at KPU helped me better understand the Canadian legal and business environment and provided a foundation for my future professional development.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

Today, I am the owner and principal of LC Notary Corporation, a notary practice serving Langley, Aldergrove, and the Fraser Valley. My practice focuses on real estate transactions, wills, powers of attorney, representation agreements, and other legal services that help individuals and families navigate important life decisions.

Beyond my practice, I serve as Chair of the Fraser Valley Chapter of the Society of Notaries Public of British Columbia, sit on the Board of Directors of the Society of Notaries Public of BC, and serve as a Governor of the Notary Foundation of BC. I am also actively involved in mentoring, community education, and volunteer leadership initiatives.

My work involves meeting with clients, supervising staff, managing the business, participating in governance activities, and helping people understand and complete important legal transactions.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

The most valuable lesson I learned at KPU was the importance of combining academic knowledge with practical application.

KPU emphasized real-world learning, critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving. Those skills have proven invaluable as both a legal professional and business owner. Equally important, KPU helped me build confidence that I could successfully transition my international education and experience into a meaningful career in Canada.

The relationships, mentorship, and sense of community I experienced at KPU reinforced the belief that lifelong learning is essential for professional growth.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

Do not underestimate the value of persistence!

Your career path may not be a straight line. There will be setbacks, unexpected opportunities, and moments when you need to adapt. Focus on continuous learning, build meaningful relationships, seek mentors, and look for ways to serve others through your profession.

Success is rarely achieved overnight. It is usually the result of consistent effort over many years. If you remain committed to your goals and continue investing in yourself, opportunities will follow.

Most importantly, remember that your education is not simply about obtaining a credential. It is about developing the skills, character, and resilience needed to make a meaningful contribution to your community.
