Nursing - Advanced Entry - 2023

What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

I was drawn to KPU’s Advanced Entry BSN program because of its strong reputation for preparing practice-ready nurses and the supportive learning environment it offered. I wanted a program that would challenge me academically while helping me build the skills and confidence needed to succeed in nursing. Looking back, it exceeded my expectations and became the foundation for both my career and personal growth.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

I currently work as an ICU nurse in the United States, caring for critically ill patients who require close monitoring and complex treatments. My day-to-day responsibilities include assessing patients, administering medications, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and supporting patients and their families through some of their most difficult moments. Next year, I will begin nurse anesthesia school to pursue my goal of becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

KPU taught me how to think critically, communicate effectively, and remain adaptable in challenging situations. The clinical experiences helped prepare me for the fast-paced ICU environment, but just as valuable were the relationships I built with classmates and faculty. Near the end of the program, I welcomed my first child while completing my preceptorship, and the support I received during that time is something I will always remember.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

Embrace every opportunity, even when it feels uncomfortable or challenging. Some of my biggest periods of growth came when I was balancing nursing school, a full-time job, clinicals, and becoming a new parent. Trust in your abilities, lean on the community around you, and don’t be afraid to pursue ambitious goals. The connections you make at KPU and the experiences you gain there can continue to open doors long after graduation.
