Technical Management and Services - 2021
What brought you to KPU and your program of study?
I chose KPU to build on my existing academic background with a program that bridges technology and management. The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Technical Management and Services offered a strong foundation in both technical operations and service management, helping me prepare for real-world challenges in the IT field.
Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?
I currently work in IT support at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), where I manage day-to-day technical operations, troubleshoot issues, and ensure reliable service delivery across multiple departments and event spaces. A significant highlight of my role has been my involvement in establishing the IT infrastructure for the Freedom Mobile Arch, a new state-of-the-art venue. I worked on setting up core systems, ensuring network reliability, and supporting the seamless integration of technology to meet the demands of large-scale events and live operations.
In addition, I am actively involved in supporting major international events, including preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Festival in Vancouver. This involves coordinating IT readiness, supporting high-demand environments, and ensuring systems remain stable and responsive under significant usage. These experiences have strengthened my ability to work under pressure, solve problems in real time, and deliver consistent, high-quality IT support in dynamic and fast-paced settings.
Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?
The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma at KPU equipped me with a blend of technical knowledge and service management skills that directly align with my current role. I gained practical experience in troubleshooting, project coordination, and understanding service delivery frameworks. These skills have been critical in supporting complex IT environments, especially when working on infrastructure setup for the Freedom Mobile Arch and providing reliable support during major events like the FIFA 2026 Fan Festival.
What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?
I would recommend that students focus on gaining practical experience alongside their studies. Apply what you learn in real-world settings, build your professional network, and don’t hesitate to step outside your comfort zone. Developing strong troubleshooting skills, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to work under pressure will help you stand out in your career.
