What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

I chose KPU because of its practical approach to learning and smaller class sizes, which made it easier to connect with instructors and get support when needed. I enrolled in the Computer Information Systems diploma because I've always been interested in technology and wanted to build skills that could lead to a career in IT. The program gave me hands on experience and a strong foundation in different areas of technology.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

I currently work as a Web Developer at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario. Day to day, I work on updating and maintaining the university’s websites, building new pages and features, and supporting different departments with their web requests. I also troubleshoot issues when they come up and make sure everything stays running smoothly and up to date.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

The most valuable skills I gained at KPU came from the Computer Information Systems diploma. I built a solid foundation in programming, databases, and web development, which I use regularly in my current role. The hands on projects were especially helpful because they gave me real experience solving problems and working with different technologies. I also learned how to think through issues more logically, which has been important when troubleshooting and building web solutions.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

My advice would be to take advantage of every hands on opportunity you get while you're at KPU. Don’t just focus on getting through the courses, really try to understand how what you're learning applies in real projects. Work on personal or side projects too, because that helps a lot when you're trying to build experience. Also, don’t hesitate to ask questions or connect with your instructors and classmates. Those relationships and practical skills go a long way after graduation.
